Oltre le parole, cartoonists d’Asia a Kathmandu

A metà novembre a Patan (Yala Maya Kendra) si è tenuta un esibizione di una quarantina di cartoonists dell’Asia (e non solo). La mostra è stata organizzata da una delle migliori riviste planetarie Himal, stampata in Nepal ma dedicata a tutto il sub-continente.
Anche qui c’è stato un vincitore (Husejin Hanusic (Hule) dalla Bosnia Erzegovina) ma tutti e 40, sono stati premiati dall’aver contribuito a rimettere il Nepal verso la normalità.
E’ stato anche il modo per rendere pubblico e “ufficiale” il lavoro mai documentato dei cartoonist in Asia, un lavoro non sempre facile. Across Southasia, cartoonists have braved their way past societal restrictions on free speech to increase democratisation of the public sphere. Nor has even a single cartoonists’ network been set up anywhere in the region to protect the rights of cartoonists and their work. But even as cartoonists await a better appreciation of their art, they continue afflicting the comfortable and comforting the afflicted.
