Me

For years, I worked in Nepal in projects related to education, health, community development in the area of Kavre, Chitwan and Kathmandu. More than 8000 children and 60.000 people were the beneficiaries of our work done in cooperation with community and local organizations. In 2005 we started up the same projects in Cambodia. Before I collaborated with Tribhuvan University and other organizations. I wrote several guide and travel books on Nepal and himalayan countries and collaborated in shooting documentaries on Nepal, Tibet, Sikkim and Mozambique. Now I decided to work again in a private company fed up by most of the methods and people in the self-called no-profit organizations. I am sorry for the local people really committed in creating opportunities and hopes.

Paul Theroux, Dark star safari, (Baldini Castoldi, euro 19,50) , scrittore di viaggio, torna in Africa ad inizio millennio dopo aver lavorato negli anni 60 in Uganda. Viaggia e racconta il continente dal Cairo a Città del capo, in un lungo e bel viaggio. Incontra i soliti operatori della cooperazione che andavano "dall' idealista al più infingardo parassita". E concludeva "pareva che enti e progetti di aiuto trasformassero i problemi africani in situazioni permanenti più difficili e complicate". Era a Kathum e pensava al Darfur, ma anche al corno d Africa e al Sahel.

In Italia esistono ONLUS che sono associazioni senza fine di lucro che possono lavorare sia in Italia (assistenza negli ospedali, agli anziani, etc.) che all'estero. Il governo italiano, poi riconosce le ONG (Organizzazioni non Governative o NGO non-governmental organization o INGO International non-governmental organization, quando operano nel paese estero) che hanno così diritto ai fondi pubblici della cooperazione allo sviluppo o dell'UE. Queste possono essere anche ONLUS. Entrambe le categorie hanno diritto a chiedere il 5 per mille e a rivolgersi alla donazione privata (che usufruisce di sgravi fiscali sulle donazioni).
